Ceramic hot water bottle dating from the 1920s. It is cream-coloured with a brown knob on the front (for opening the bottle) with a pattern of cream-coloured leaves around it. The top is also brown and has another knob, to use as a handle. The bottle is imprinted with 'Pimm's Central Stores'.

This ceramic hot water bottle, which dates from the 1920s was sold by Pimm’s General Stores.

It is cylindrical in shape with a handle at the top and a cap on the front, which is opened to allow it to be filled with hot water. It is flat at the back, so it could be laid flat along its length, as well as stood on its end. It would get very hot – and was definitely not for touching the body! Rather, it would be placed and often moved around the bed, between the bedsheets, to warm everything through before bedtime.

John George Pimm & Sons Ltd, known locally simply as Pimm’s, has played a significant role in Eynsham’s business life since the end of the 1800s. Pimm’s General Store was a large general store selling household goods. It was located near Market Square, Eynsham.
