This copper alloy buckle dates from the 17th century. It was common for buckles to be used in the Stuart period (1603-1714) by men and women of almost all social classes. They used them to fasten clothes or belts. From the mid-17th century, they also used them to fasten shoes — a trend that lasted until the end of the 18th century. This buckle was discovered in the wall of the Eynsham Coop in 2014.
